Best-Selling Disney Author Wins Travel Award

Steven M. Barrett honored by TravelShark as ‘Best Investigator’

(Branford, CT – July 2012) Steven M. Barrett, author of Hidden Mickeys: A Field Guide To Walt Disney World’s Best Kept Secrets (Intrepid Traveler, $13.95), has been presented with a Sharky Award by travel website, TravelShark.

Barrett was named “Best Investigator” for his tireless efforts to uncover all the images of Mickey Mouse hidden by Disney “Imagineers” in the rides, attractions, restaurants, and hotels of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Barrett turned his research into a series of scavenger hunts that Disney World visitors can use to track the elusive mouse, competing with family and friends and scoring points for every hidden Mickey they spot.

In addition to his work at Walt Disney World, Barrett has written Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys and Hidden Mickeys Go To Sea (which covers the ships of the Disney Cruise Line). Barrett’s hidden Mickeys books are listed at Disney Parks Books.

Barrett maintains a website, Hidden Mickey Guy (www.hiddenmickeyguy.com) where he keeps track of new sightings of Mickey and sifts through finds reported by the growing legion of hidden Mickeys hunters inspired by his books.

The Sharky Awards were created in 2011 by TravelShark.com to “discover unique and unexpected people, places, and things in travel.”
