Ebooks Not Taking Over Travel Guidebooks – Yet

The Intrepid Traveler Publisher Kelly Monaghan was quoted in the Orlando Sentinel  about the role of ebooks in today’s struggle for guidebook dollars.

While he believes that ebooks are not taking over the world yet, he says the big hurdle is the decrease in retailers, which makes it more difficult to get books in front of buyers.

As a result, we at The Intrepid Traveler are focusing more on books about Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

That’s reflected in our newest titles – The Thinking Fan’s Guide to Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom by Aaron Wallace, the Lots To Do In Line series by Meredith Pierce, and our much-anticipated, Ears of Steel: The Real Man’s Guide to Walt Disney World by Bart Scott. Then there’s our well-loved Hidden Mickeys series, which have all been recently updated.

The Intrepid Traveler has ebooks of all its titles and apps of other titles, but Kelly says those sales are fewer than print sales.

He says it boils down to personal preference – it might be less traumatic to carry a book and have it fall in the water rather than an iPad!

I have to agree! E-books have their place, but I still much prefer a REAL book!
