From the mountain passes, we drop to the valleys carpeted with crops of mustard.

"For the last time, we built a small cairn of stones on the pass and recited, 'Ki ki so so lha gyalo' ('Victory to the gods'). Then the Cruisers began a dizzy nosedive downhill that ended on the valley floor at least a couple of thousand feet below. The valley floors were now emerald green and mustard yellow with crops. Past these, we entered the Nyalam Tsangpo Valley, and stopped only briefly to see the famous Buddhist shrine on the way south and down. This shrine is famous as the one where Milarepa had once meditated."
