"We drove through a narrow rapidly flowing stream for a short distance. Later, on reading a map of the area, I realised it was the Sutlej, just below the Dulchu gompa. The stream had cut a deep trench into the glacial till on the extreme south of the Barkha plain, south of the Kailash range. A group of five kiangs (wild asses) leapt past, as we forded the river and drove up the steep slope. Here we reached the most spectacularly beautiful rolling plain of moraine deposits. And somewhat by chance, came upon the Lanchen Khambab, the chu and the rocky outcrop near it."
