Spinning Disney's World
Memories of a Magic Kingdom Press AgentCharles RidgwayThe Intrepid Traveler is very proud to announce the publication of the hardcover edition of Spinning Disney's World: Memories of a Magic Kingdom Press Agent by Charles Ridgway in March, 2007. An official “Disney Legend,” Charlie Ridgway first saw Disneyland before it opened, when he snuck a kid under the fence for a feature story he was writing for a local paper. A few years later, he hired on as a publicist for Disney and spent the next forty years cooking up ways to get “the Mouse” free publicity. For Donald Duck’s fiftieth birthday he trained fifty white Peking ducks to waddle behind Donald down Main Street USA. When the celebration was over, he got even more publicity by donating the “used” ducks to zoos across America. He helped open new Disney parks in Orlando, Paris and Hong Kong. Along the way he rubbed shoulders with presidents and princes, helped usher in the era of electronic newsgathering, and was on a first-name basis with every great journalist of the last half century. In this engaging and light-hearted memoir, Ridgway shares the special magic that makes Disney’s world universally beloved. Charles Ridgway served in World War II, rumbling into Germany on a half-track. A dedicated newspaperman, he decided to accept a job at Disney because it would constantly let him write about new things. A member of the Society of American Travel Writers, Ridgway is now retired and lives in Longwood, FL, when he is not traveling the world in search of his next story. Listen To A Legend. A treasure trove of radio and podcast interviews with Charlie Ridgway. Read the Reviews. This is a book everyone loves.
